Educational Outreach Programs

Opera Fort Collins offers a variety of programs for students in our schools.

Opera A La Carte- K-5   Artist in Residence (A.I.R.) An introduction to elements of an opera is presented in an interactive lesson/s with Artist in Residence, Soprano, Jane Haycraft, who is a classically trained singer as well as music educator.  Ms Haycraft will use the smart board to present a brief slide show introduction about opera. The slide show will introduce concepts of Opera, elements of a production including costumes, props, stage, setting, chorus, solo, aria, recitative, hero and villain, protagonist and antagonist. Ms Haycraft will illicit connections to the students’ curriculum.  She will demonstrate classical singing style and sound production. The students will participate by exploring their voices, as well. The students will be assigned roles in a mini opera, The Sleeping Princess, or A Heroes Tale that will be sung and acted out as the culminating activity. The lesson is designed to fit a normal general music class period. To schedule your school contact Jane Haycraft at haycraftjane@gmail.com

Collaborative After School Musical (C.A.S.M.) The classroom music teacher works with OFC’s Artist in Residence, Jane Haycraft, to plan, produce and perform a mini opera.
